General Health and Safety
Purpose of the course:
The OH&S Act requires all employers to ensure that the workplace is safe for employees. To enable staff to have a basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety and how to apply it in the workplace.
This course provides the employee with a theoretical background and practical skills through small-group work.
Target group:
General Employees, Supervisory staff.
Course outline:
Section 1: Employer and employee duties regarding occupational health and safety
⭄ Explain both employer and employee duties regarding OHS in the workplace.
⭄ Understand employee rights in terms of OHS.
⭄ Identify the OHS representative structure and activities.
⭄ Identify workplace hazards and associated risks.
Section 2: General safety rules in the workplace
⭄ Explain the general safety rules in the workplace, including:
⭄ Intoxication
⭄ Use of motorised equipment
⭄ Lock-out procedures
⭄ Safety signage
Section 3: The use and application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
⭄ Explain the use and application of PPE in the workplace.
⭄ Understand reporting and replacement procedures, as well as PPE limitations.
Section 4: Good housekeeping in the workplace
⭄ Explain the need for good housekeeping.
⭄ Understand general rules for stacking and storing.
⭄ Understand demarcation and colour coding.
Section 5: Emergency procedures in the workplace
⭄ Explain the importance of emergency procedures, escape routes, and assembly points.
⭄ Identify communication procedures.

⭄ Certificate: Certificate of Attendance (retraining recommended after 2 years)
